Read United is United Way of Forsyth County’s signature early literacy program, designed to ensure every child has the reading skills they need to succeed in school and in life. Volunteers commit just one hour a week during the school year to work one-on-one with K–3 students, helping them strengthen their reading skills, build confidence, and develop a love for books.
By pairing community volunteers with young readers, Read United provides:
-
Individualized Support – Personalized reading time that meets each child where they are.
-
Stronger Skills – Improved fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
-
Confidence & Joy – Encouragement that turns struggling readers into lifelong learners.
-
Community Connection – A powerful way for neighbors to invest in the future of local students.
When children read at grade level by the end of third grade, they are far more likely to graduate on time, pursue higher education, and achieve long-term success.
👉 One hour a week can change a child’s future.
