The Nonprofit Leadership Collective is a regional initiative powered by United Way Forsyth & Dawson Counties to strengthen and unite the nonprofit sector across the region.
Through shared learning, leadership development, and collaborative problem-solving, the Collective serves as the central hub for nonprofit excellence — equipping organizations to grow their capacity, amplify their impact, and build a stronger, more connected community.
The Collective is not just a series of trainings — it’s a movement of local leaders working together to shape the future of North Georgia’s nonprofit ecosystem.
📚 Our Approach
At the heart of our approach to community solutions is our Nonprofit Leadership Collective—a dynamic, year-round initiative that brings together nonprofit leaders from Forsyth and Dawson Counties to learn, collaborate, and grow.
Under the umbrella of the Collective, United Way offers a range of opportunities designed to strengthen the nonprofit sector:
-
Nonprofit Capacity Building Program
Our signature Capacity Building Program provides a structured, 9 month learning journey covering topics like board development, fundraising, financial stewardship, equity-centered leadership, and more. -
Competitive Grants
United Way offers competitive grants to support nonprofit organizations in Forsyth and Dawson Counties through two key avenues: program grants that address urgent community needs, and capacity building grants that strengthen internal systems, leadership, and long-term sustainability. Eligibility for capacity building grants is limited to organizations actively participating in the Capacity Building Program. -
Workshops & Roundtables (coming soon)
Throughout the year, we host topical workshops and facilitated conversations that respond to emerging needs and foster sector-wide collaboration. -
Annual Nonprofit Conference (coming soon)
Beginning in 2027, United Way will host United for Impact, a full-day gathering of nonprofit leaders, board members, funders, and community partners from across Forsyth and Dawson Counties. This high-energy event features keynote speakers, breakout sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities focused on the most pressing issues and promising practices in the nonprofit sector. -
Nonprofit Board Training (coming soon)
Whether you are a seasoned leader, brand new to nonprofit governance, or looking to join a board for the very first time, our Board Training Series equips you with the tools, clarity, and confidence to lead effectively. Grounded in best practices and real-world application, this training covers roles and responsibilities, financial oversight, fundraising, strategic thinking, and mission alignment. Designed for both individual board members and full boards, sessions can be delivered as stand-alone workshops or as part of a comprehensive onboarding and engagement strategy. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of what it means to move from passive governance to powerful, mission-driven leadership.
